rojobaxter asked: Hey! Really love your work but was wondering what you use for reference when drawing the elaborate faux military costumes on some of your images? :) x
Thank you. I don’t recall drawing military costumes except for in a recent pencil drawing, which is loosely based on French military costume during Napoleon Boneparte’s reign. I just googled some images and picked some interesting parts. Apart from that I obsessively collect images that I find on the internet. I have a huge digital library divided in many subfolders in which I keep images that inspire me. I absolutely love Tumblr for this. I often lay down on my couch, browse Tumblr on my phone and hit the like button on every pic that I find interesting, which I save to my computer later on.
As for reference I usually pick parts that I find interesting. Sometimes it’s a piece of artwork that I found which triggered my urge to try something similar (lately I’m completely in love with the work of Vania Zouravliov). I hardly ever use reference one on one though, some parts I do but never entire scenes or complete costumes even.
